I have statistics for the percentage
of the women in the work force
from 1960-the present, but not
for 1940. (For instance in 1960
it was 35% and increased steadily
since then.) However, the statistics
I have come from the U.S. Bureau
of Labor Statistics, so I suggest
that you contact them directly
about those statistics from
the 1940s. It may actually be
higher than average given WWII--but
they will know best. Good luck.
