Women's History

I am a junior in high school and doing a hugh reaserch project for my American history class. I decided that my topic is going to be the history of black women and the effects of slavery. If there is any way that you can assist me in this, please write back and tell me! I need to know where and how to start. Thank you! Kathy

You have quite an ambitious research project ahead of you--how exciting.

Here are my immediate suggestions to help you start your research:

1.) bell hook's book Ain't I A Woman: Black Women and Feminism . She tackles black women's place in the women's movement and will certainly give you some food for thought.

2.) Darlene Clark Hines' Black Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia. This will give you so much information. Hopefully your library will have a copy.

I hope those suggestions helps. Let me know if you need more information. Good luck.
