I am doing a research paper on the effects of media (mostly literature) and the self perception of young adult or teen girls (ages 11-14 years). I am seeking any information where I might locate articles on this topic. Thanks, Rhonda

You should contact FAIR - Fair and Accuracy in Media Reporting. They have some of the information that you may want. Also, Carol Gilligan's book In A Different Voice is about how adolescent girls lose their true voice as a way of assimilating into society. It should have examples. There is also a book by Farai Chideya, Don't Believe the Hype: Misinformation About African-Americans in the Media, which has an emphasis on young people.

For positive examples of teen girls in the media - see HUES Magazine and New Moon Magazine. I hope that helps.
