Hello,

My name is Caitlin and I am a feminist. For a class I am writing on feminism and it's bad stigma in the media. What is your point of view? Where do you think the stigma came from? And why has it continued?

Caitlin

Dear Caitlin,

I certainly agree that feminism has, unnessarily earned a bad reputation in the media. Mostly, I think this is a result of the media only seeing things that are explicitly labeled as feminist, feminist -- they don't take into account groups like those helping to transition women from welfare to work or those working on women's health issues as feminist, because feminist isn't in their title. Therefore, they overlook that for the sake of other things -- or they only focus on what is seemingly extreme, since that is what feminism is to them, rather than everyday and more common occurances.

I hope that helps,

- Amy
