Dear Amy,

I'm writing a research paper based on the idea that specific events in women's history changed how women were portrayed on television. Do you have any thoughts on specific events that you think influenced a certain decade?

Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

Your topic is very interesting, and a different spin on the usual questions I get about women and the media. I'm sure that lots of shows were influenced by feminism -- Mary Tyler Moore, Cagney and Lacey, Laverne & Shirley, Roseanne, Kate and Ali -- but I can't begin to confirm this or to pinpoint specific events. Perhaps try the Museum of Radio and Television, which is located in NYC.

Good luck,

- Amy
