Hi Amy,

I am writing about the cultural difference between feminists in Africa and in America. Specifically, if you have any articles about women power or role in Africa before European colonization. Do you have any historical information's that can tell us, women in Africa use to have more power and respect before the European interference?

Thank you very much,

Lemlem

Lemlen --

I'm not sure I have proof for what you are saying, but I certainly believe it to be true. I know that I have read the same when it comes to the situation for Native Americans and how their lives become less egalitarian once the Europeans arrived. There is a ton written on this in the context of the life of Matilde Jocelyn Gage. Specific to your question you might try the WEB Dubois Center at Harvard. I hope that helps -- good luck.
