Hi Amy, Congratulations on the site, it's excellent :-)

I wonder if you can help me with this - I'm after information, preferably online but books/magazine articles as well, about the potential dangers of cosmetics - I mean physical dangers such as containing carcinogens, rather than the psychological damage they can do. I wondered if you could point me at any useful sources of data?

Many thanks, Kim

Thanks for your note to Feminist.com--and for thinking that we could help with your research. I have a few suggestions, but the best place is to go directly to EcoMall's "Green Shopping Magazine" (http://www.ecomall.com/greenshopping). There you can do a search for "cosmetics," and discover articles such as: Natural vs. Synthetic Cosmetics.

Also, a few groups to contact for more information:

Environmental Research Foundation
Mothers & Others for a Livable Planet
Public Interest Research Group (202-546-9707; fax (202) 546-2461.)

Those resources should lead you to the information you are looking for. Perhaps the next step is to get the latter group involved in forcing cosmetic companies to put warning labels on their products. Hmmm.....
