Hello,

I am doing a marketing ethics research project, and I was wondering if you may be able to suggest web sites or resources that I can research. My group chose to look at the clothing retail market, and the increasing sexual objectification of young girls. If you could provide me with any direction to research materials, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Thank you,

Alana

Dear Alana,

The good news is that you aren't the first to focus on the increasing sexual objectification of young girls, therefore, there are tons of resources for you. There is the work of Jean Kilbourne, her book is called Killing Us Softly and it focuses on just this subject. There is also a documentary, The Strength to Resist, which is loosely based on her book. This film is available through Cambridge Documentaries (Cambridge, MA). This film also mentions the work of the Harvard Center for Eating Disorders, which works to combat the effects of the media on women and girls and is affiliated with Harvard University. The film also includes the work of Gail Dines, a professor of media criticism at Clark University in Massachusetts.

Good luck.
