From Soapbox--Feminist Intensive for Professors and Staff


Soapbox's Feminist Intensive NYC, hosted by author/activists Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner, is designed for professionals working at colleges and universities.

Next Session: June 20-23, 2012 Cost: $1500 (includes program fee, metrocard, and meals but not travel to/from NYC or housing.)

Program Goals:
� To create accessible links between theory and practice
� To bridge perceived gaps between academia and activism
� To introduce faculty to diverse research undertaken outside of the academy and experience practices that have yet to be documented or codified into theory
� To create a larger community of feminist teachers and scholars

Takeaway:
� Invigorated sense of best practices
� Expanded network of colleagues
� Increased depth of knowledge of feminism in action
� Connections to leading feminist publishers, activists, lawyers and non-profit executives
� The pleasure of three days of non-stop intellectual nourishment

Schedule
� DAY 1: Global Feminisms, which may include a workshop at the International Women�s Health Coalition, meetings with UN Women, the Global Fund for Women, Equality Now, V-Day, and NoVo Foundation.
� DAY 2: Media, including a Progressive Women�s Voices media training at the Women�s Media Center, meetings with writers and editors from The New York Times, Bust, Ms., and the Feminist Press, and lunch with leading journalists.
� DAY 3: TBD once we have established the interests of the group.*
