Sumiche Jewelry is the collaboration of Miché and
Susan Onaclea. In early 2004 we took a big leap
in our jewelry making and switched to using only
certified green, sustainably mined / fair trade
gold and platinum for all of our handcrafted and
custom designed precious metal jewelry.
Additionally we use recycled silver, conflict
free diamonds and fair trade gems where possible.
Miché began making jewelry in High School 1976
and sold her first pieces to women's bookstores
in NYC - Djuna Books in the Village, WomanBooks
and WomanSpace on the upper east side. She is
mostly self taught with various stints in jewelry
stores, small manufactures, freelance repair work
and a earn my Graduate Gemology degree from GIA.
Susan has been a writer, photographer and a
pioneer in the recycling movement. She was one
of the coop members of Garbagio in Eugene,
Oregon, a woman owned garbage collection
collective that was the first in the state to
institute curbside recycling.
Together we have created and run the business
as partners for the last 18 years. This last
March Originally selling to galleries and
traveling to various women's festivals and craft
fairs, they now sell their work only on-line.
Though custom designing (mostly rings) with our
clients is a specialty, we offers a full range of
pins, pendants, earrings and bracelets. We look
forward to making something special for you.
