Soylar Candles is a woman owned soy candle company located in Long Beach, California. The home-based company was founded in 2007 by me, Irene Guoz, a stay at home mother of two small children. I am a crafter at heart and environmental steward. The business began with the idea to go green right from the start. My main focus is reuse, reduce, recycle and use sustainable ingredients. I use fair trade ethics whenever possible for my ingredients and decorations for the candles. My home is powered by a 3.3 Kilowatt solar power system. My husband and I host an annual solar tour with the City of Long Beach.
The candles are made by me with recycled jars, cans and bottles with 100% soy wax and lead-free wicks. Each candle item is custom made fresh with organic essential oils, phthalate-free fragrances or unscented. I make soy tealights, votives, tarts, pillars, jar candles and even recycled bottle candles. The massage candles are made with a blend of natural oils and is 100% natural and vegan friendly.
The company has grown to include other earth friendly products such as cloth napkins, handkerchiefs, organic baby wipes, bath and body products, cloth gift bags, reusable water bottles and reusable shopping bags. I enjoy sewing napkins when I'm not making candles. My hopes are to get everyone off of paper napkins and paraffin candles.
Working at home is a rewarding job because I get to be home for my children. I don't spend hours in traffic burning oil and I know I am safe, my family is secure and I am doing something that I love.
