Work/ Career

I work in the outdoor industry. I have been with the same company for 11 1/2 years. I have done the design for about 8 years for them.

Two years ago they hired a designer with a degree and only had about 8 months work experience before coming to work. He had never worked in the cut and sew industry. I have been in the cut and sew manufacturing for over 25 years. I do not have a degree but I do the same job and hold the same job title. He makes more then me. I feel lost and would like same guidance.

Thanks,

Deb

Dear Deb,

I would certainly recommend raising your complaints directly with your employer. The main reason they say that women don't get raises, is they don't ask. I think that you have a good case and should argue it directly with your bosses or at least present your case to them.

Good luck,

-- Amy
