How do I go about opening a women's shelter? I am currently taking on-line non-profit management courses. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks in advance

That’s great that you want to open your own shelter, certainly there must be a need. I honestly think the best thing might be for you to connect with others who have started their own shelter. There is the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and also the Family Violence Prevention Fund. Both work directly with various shelters. They are probably the best source, as they can share best/worse case scenarios with you, such as how to raise money, including securing government money. I know that the Department of Justice has money and it might be best to go through them, there is a Violence Against Women division. And of course, funding requires balance between individuals, governments, foundations, etc., and I would be sure to approach all three from the get go. I hope that others can help you.

Thanks
