I would like to know how to become an activist living in the heartland?

Thanks for your note to FEMINIST.COM and for your interest in stiring up the heartland. I think the best way to start is to decide what is a problem facing your community. From--get educated on the problem and find others to organize with. A simplier form of activism is what I call everday feminism....when you hear a sexist joke say "that isn't funny;" when you see someone being mistreated "help them out;" write letters to your newspaper when it says something you don't agree with; call your politicians to support and oppose them (check out the Washington Feminist Faxnet at FEMINIST.COM for more information about how to do this); refuse to buy products that have ads degrading women and support those who don't stereotype women; start a book club; support a feminist bookstore.....

You should also check out our Activism section for more ideas on getting involved. I hope that's incentive......good luck
