Hi. I am writing to you in the hope that you can give me some information (that I cannot imagine where to start looking for). Basically, do you know of any record companies anywhere that release and promote artists as feminists for thinking audiences?

I have run up against the brick wall of my company deciding not to promote me at all (in spite of the fact that they have recorded and pressed my CD already and released 2 singles from it) as they are unwilling to do it this way. I am expected to do it their way - which you can probably imagine - or not at all. At present I am in the midst of the not-at-all option, and hope to find some other means of making my music available to people.

If you can help, or know someone that possibly could, I would really appreciate it. I can send copies of my album if required. Thanks for your time. Kind regards, Jordan

I have two suggestions, which may or may not be helpful.

  1. Ani Difranco's label--Righteous Babe Productions. While right now, (I think) she only produces/distrubutes, etc... her own stuff, I would think that she would be looking to expand her label to other feminist muscians.
  2. Ladyslipper, which is a catalogue and more--featuring feminist/women muscians. Holly Near is very involved with this--and may even have started it. They have an #800 listed and I think they are located in Redwood, CA.

Good luck and I hope that these two suggestions lead to something.
