several articles on sexism on
the music industry. Most notably
by Anne Powers in Spin
and in Ms.
Magazine. The latter is
a great source for other articles
as well--especially since it
isn't a specific music magazine
it can explore those issues
without fear of retaliation.
I member two articles in particular,
one was about how Lilith Fair
came into being and the other
was about Missy Elliot's new
album.
Ann
Powers also did a book about
women in rock, I believe it
was connected to Rolling
Stone. Also, the entire
Riot Grrrl movement grew out
of sexism in the punk music
scene, so doing research on
them might lead you to something.
