A friend told me a quote of a famous feminist (around the year 1932) and asked if I could name the author. We have no idea, but I did know of your website and now hope that you could help us. The quote is as follows: "A man is as useful as a fish on a bicycle". Any help that you may render would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation, Tamara

Thanks for your note to FEMINIST.COM. I believe the quote you are referring to is: "A Woman Needs a Man Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle." Many people have wrongly attributed this quote to Gloria Steinem, but it was actually supposedly coined by an Australian Irina Dunn--who was under the influence of Germain Greer when she was in a university in the late 1960s early 1970s. She wrote this on the bathroom wall and it spread from there. I hope that helps putting the nagging question to bed.
