Dear Amy,

As a class project, we are doing public service announcements. My group is creating one on how women are portrayed in media and we want to know your opinion on this subject. Thanks a lot,

Doreen

Media representations of women are tough for me because at a certain point I wonder if the women are mimicking the ad or if the ad is mimicking the women. Also, sex sells because it sells. It's a fine line between giving people what they want and exploitation.

I don't know where the line actually is and I think it's different for each person. As for your message, perhaps create a message that gets the viewer to figure out what is exploitative. Also, instead of just saying the media is bad, how about instead spending your time creating what you deem to be positive or appropriate ads?

I hope that helps.

Good luck,

- Amy
