Feminism

I am a 25 year old American citizen living in Nottingham, England.

I am seeking a way into the feminist world as an activist on a more professional level. I volunteer some free time to local charities but need to become more involved! I am currently reading Manifesta, which just gets me even more anxious to get started! I read so many books on feminism and am so inspired, but I feel that I don't know where to go has far as actually making a difference in women's rights.

I feel very strong towards reproductive rights and would like to aim in that direction, just how? I don't have extra money to send for donations or to travel places very often, but I have the passion and need. I sometimes feel guilty for not doing more, that I'm taking for granted all the suffering and strength that has been put into equal rights and feminism. I have journalism experience from high school, an Associate of Arts degree from a community college, and am currently in my final year of my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Stress Management from Breyer State University through a distant learning contract. I am also in the process of starting a training course in freelance editing and proofreading.

I am so confused and don't know which paths to take in order to really make the most of out of my life as a strong young woman. I wish I had a person to guide me and to show me some possible directions. Do you know anyone in the Nottingham area that would be willing to take me under their wing?! Probably not, but I had to ask!! I would treasure all the advice you can offer.

Thank you for your time and I wish you luck in all you do.

Jolene

Jolene --

Thanks for reaching out and as you guessed, I don't know anyone in Nottingham, England -- or even in the vicinity. But I do think that the best thing to do is to think about people that you admire and they initially might not feel tangible, but what I and others have experienced is that sometimes initiation is the only thing standing between me and someone/something else.

I have been surprised at how many people are available once I take the initiative. So think about who you know, admire or don't know and think is interesting and just reach out. I hope you get good results and I will certainly keep my eye out for anyone who might be in your area. Good luck and thanks for reaching out
